This study features a scrutiny of soil ecological issues of tobacco cultivation in Russia, e.g. the influence of soil characteristics on quantity and quality of output yield. Low-humus soils of Caucasus foothills steppe and forest zones show the best productivity. The quality of tobacco grown on black soils is unsatisfactory, while salty soils are extremely unfavorable. Soil ecology of tobacco is close to that one of vine cultivation.
