Ethnodemographic trends in the Republic of Kalmykia in period of Transformation of Russian Society (1990–2000)


The article is devoted to the description of the ethnodemographic trends in the Republic of Kalmykia in the context of the transformation of Russian society in 1990–2000-ies. The analysis of the processes of formation and development of various ethnic groups in its territory in the historical dynamics and interethnic and inter-religious interaction leads to the conclusion that the reduction of the number of large, except for the Kalmyk, ethnic groups is observed in the general structure of republic’s population in the post-Soviet period. The unemployment, low living standards in the region, etc. have considerable influence on these processes.
