The article is devoted to the historical and legal analysis of the use of forced labor in domestic criminal law and aims to explore the criminal law of Russia and the Russian Empire. The author carries out a detailed study of the gradual historical aspect of the employment of convicted persons and places of forced labor in the history of domestic criminal law, and identify the causes of and the use of forced labor of convicts.
