Aggressive Consciousness and Its Cultural Meanings

(Federal State Educational Institution of Higher Education, Rostov Law Institute of the Ministry of Internal Aff airs of the Russian Federation, Rostov-on-Don, Russia)

Aggressive consciousness is defined as a socio-cultural phenomenon, its semantic, value contours, causes and forms of manifestation. The relevance of this research stems primarily from the fact that traditional moral and legal boundaries and limits in the life of an individual or society as a whole, in their historical development, reveal their own limitations, relativity, and instability. The status and meaning of aggression as a strategy of thinking and behavior are far from always negative and destructive. Furthermore, the author demonstrates the essential connection between the aggressive model of «self-identity» and transgression as a universal property of human nature. This approach achieves the main goal of the study: identifying the contradiction between the hedonistic attitude dominant in contemporary urban mass culture
and the growing potential of aggressive consciousness with its corresponding ideals, goals, and values. As a result of the analysis, the author concludes that, under conditions of intensive development of the living «environment» and its increasingly close fusion with legal forms, the consumer of «goods» loses the experience of a borderline existence (being). The quantitative growth of transgressive actions does not quench the thirst for the «limit». At the same time, aggressive consciousness is capable of compensating for the diffusion of
norms and anomalies, while simultaneously maintaining a balance between the subject and the object of their consumption in a market culture.
