The Caucasus as a Subject of Philosophical Inspiration for Yu.A. Zhdanov and Linguoculturological Interpretation for Yu.A. Gvozdarev

(Southern Federal University, Rostov-on-Don, Russia)

The 110th anniversary of Southern Federal University (SFU) provides a unique occasion to reflect on the role of scholars whose work furthered the university’s evolving mission. SFU was built upon the oldest university in the North Caucasus – Rostov State University – which, in the latter half of the 20th
century, served as a unifying force for scholarly activity in the country’s South. This article examines the contributions of Yu.A. Zhdanov, a writer-publicist and culturologist, and Yu.A. Gvozdarev, a linguoculturologist, to this process.
