Mobilization of the Population of the Kalmyk ASSR According to the «Register of those Drafted by the Western District Military Commissariat of the Kalmyk ASSR in 1943»

The paper reveals the specific features of military personnel mobilization in the Kalmyk ASSR based on the «Register book of servicemen conscripted by the Western District Military Commissariat of the Kalmyk ASSR in 1943”, firstly introduced into scholarly circulation. Author analyzes the total number of conscripts in 1943, their age, national and educational composition of the conscripts. Based digital bank data of «Memory of the People» (“Pamyat’ naroda”) and “Memorial» the military path and fate of the conscripts are traced.
By reconstructing the picture of mobilization processes in the Kalmyk ASSR during the crucial period of the war author shows the total nature of mobilization. It has been revealed that the low proportion of natives of military age is a result of the German occupation and the tragic deportation of the Kalmyk people. The paper emphasizes also the important contribution to the overall Victory of the Kalmyk ASSR conscripts, marked by military awards, despite the difficulties of mobilization.
