The dynamics of the fauna of terrestrial vertebrates from the steppes of the Caucasus Foothills and the adequacy of the existing network of specially preserved territories for the task of representational functions of the types of ecosystems and the preservation of rare species is analyzed. The necessity for ecological expertise in these projects aimed at restoring a natural ecosystem is indicated.
