The regularities of the diversity of the Caucasus biosystems

(Nalchick)

The problem of the vriability in the mammals (Mammalia) in the Caucasus mountains is considered in light of the original scientific concepts of biological effect of altitudinal and zonal structure of mountain landscape that has been elaborated by the author since the fifties of the 20th century. The high level of the taxonomic diversity, heterogeneity and endemicity of the Caucasus theriofauna is a result of adaptation in organisms not only to the altitudinal gradient of environmental factors but to the sectoral one as wall. It is found that the contribution of the sectoral variability to the composition of the Caucasus biodiversity is of too more significant than that only of the altitudinal variability.
