Ethnoconfessional processes in the Shaki-Kabala teirritory during the 18th 19th centuries


The ethnoconfessional processes in the Shaki-Kabala territory located in what is now Azerbaijan are examined. The impact of active Islamization and spread of Turkicspeakers in the territory on the rezident Ude ethnic group is explores. The majority of Udis were assimilated into the Turkic speaking peoples during the 18th - 19th centuries. The ethnic identy of the Udis living in Nizh and Vartashen was preserved as a result of their adherence to the Armenian-Christian confessional.
