The causes and sources of the October events in Nalchick in 2005 in the context of ethnopolitical situation in the North Caucasus and Russia on the whole are being analyzed. The author shows with many arguments that political practice in Russia lags behind the real process of Russia civic-political society growing and even gets into contradiction with this process. The author maintains that Nalchick October events 2005 in this way are challenge to Russia.
