The Competitiveness of Regions: View from a Local

The theoretic content of the notion “competitive ability of regions” is analyzed. Inequality of direct transfer of fundamentals of classical competitiveness theory from micro- to meso-level of economy is grounded. By the example of Northern Caucasus the necessity of use in regional policy of “soft” model variant “competitive ability of regions” is shown.
