The article shows the role of the rector of Rostov State University (1957–1988) and Chairman of the North-Caucasian Scientific Center, Higher School (1969–2006) Yu.A. Zhdanov in the development of historical sciences and educational process in RSU, in institutionalization of the historical regional studies and organization and coordination of studies on the territory of the North Caucasus.
