Speech Clusters as Elements of Montage of J. Joyce
The article analyses the functional peculiarities of speech clusters playing the constructive role in the process of montage of J. Joyce’s “Ulysses” due to their modus meaning and audio and visual effects produced. The modus meaning of the units analyzed is transferred by the seme “the fixation of the primary situation”, the propositional meaning – by the seme “perception”. The estimating modal semes turn out to be classificatory for the lexical and semantic subgroups of speech clusters. Such semes reflect the generally accepted emotional states.
