Cicero about the Relationship between Ancient Greek and Ancient Roman Cultures: from the Ancient Ideas toward the Modern Culturological Methodology

Cicero’s ideas of Ancient Rome and Ancient Greek cultures interconnection are considered in the article. This philosopher works analysis shows that in 2nd century B.C. the Romans realized the dependence of their own cultural development from Ancient Greek achievements. In the works of Cicero we can discover the reasoning of the process which has the name of “cross cultural influence” in modern culturology. Cicero considers the idea of originality and Ancient Greek influence on it, specific revision of Ancient Greek heritage, principals of the Roman cultural development. Cicero makes an attempt to apply historical-comparative method which today is one of the major methods in cultural science. The ideas of this philosopher confirm that the origin of the methods which are widely used in modern humanitarian disciplines go back to extreme antiquity.
