Romania and Transnistria: Romanian Approach towards the Solution of the Transnistrian Problem
The article focuses on the Romanian attitude towards the solution of the Transnistrian conflict. The geopolitical reasons for the increased interest in this region of Romania are studied as well as the relationship between the Romanian tradition of geopoliticsl and foreign policy of the current leadership of this country. The economic and political interests of Romania in the region are examined too. The author critically addresses the Romanian leadership’s proposals to solve the conflict and to restore the territorial integrity of Moldova. Also the projects proposed by expert centers of this state are considered. The author concludes that the aim of Romania is the ousting of Russia from the region. This aim is actively supported by the Western (European and Euro-Atlantic) structures, their proposals coincide with the Romanian ones.
