The article shows the main milestones of life and scientiﬁc work of outstanding Russian historian and archaeologist in the Caucasian second half of XX – beginning of XXI century V.B. Vinogradov. Special attention is paid to the contribution of the scientist in the study and defense of the historical and political unity of Russia and the North Caucasus.
