L.N. Gumilyov and P.N. Savitskiy: the Meeting of Two Eurasianist Generations – Dialogue Across the Time Distance Gap (Epistolary Heritage Essay)

This article analyses from the geopolitical standpoint the correspondence between two outstanding figures of Rus- sian science and culture of the 20-th century – P.N. Savitskiy and L.N. Gumilyov. Their correspondence lasted from 1956 till 1968. Its central issue is Gumilyov’s concept of “place-development” and the theme of Eurasia. The correspondence unfolds at the background of P.N. Savitskiy and L.N. Gumilyov’s tragic fate. The author takes into consideration the historical context of the epoch within which they were most active. In the centre of the author’s attention is the plot concerning another famous representative of eurasianists – the historian G.V. Vernadskiy, who was keenly interested in L.N. Gumilyov’s works and corresponded with him supporting Gumilyov in every possible way.
