The Village Social Governence in the Reformed Chechnya


The article examines issues related to the agricultural administration in Chechnya. The paper is based on analysis of the “Regulation on the village (aul) societies, their public administration, government and public obligation among the mountain population of Terek region”. It shows that government policy in 60s of the 19th century, aimed at the external (sham) observance of adats and traditions, was temporary. In fact, the authorities have gradually replaced the usual publicized rights with laws of the Russian Empire in a degraded form.
