The problems of the formation of the modern Russian civic identity in its relation to ethnic and religious identities are discussed in the article. The conclusion is made that in the situation when ethnic and religious identities have disintegrating results and civic identity is formal in its nature, it is the formation of civilizational identity that can really contribute to the national unity of the Russian Federation.
