The article deals with the integrating role of the Russian nation in the formation and development of secular education in the North Caucasus in general with particular reference to Kabardino-Balkarian State University. The transformation of a provincial University into one of the Russian leading Universities stimulating the regional modernization and leading it to the innovative vector of the development is shown.
