Archaisms in the Language System and Language Usage

(Rostov-on-Don)

The article is devoted to archaisms in the language system and language usage. In the Russian language throughout
the twentieth century the lexical units with actual denotative content that didn’t have current synonymous were eliminated
from the active language use. That Contrary to the view that only historicisms are the only names of missing objects
and phenomena of reality, that do not have synonyms in modern Russian literary language, the article argues that the
archaisms have this property, too. The signifi cant reduction in the current glossary became the consequence of this
process that is the feature of the modern “transit” period of the Russian language development.
