North Caucasian Historiography: Borders and a Correlation of Coordinating Concepts

This work presents an analysis of application of the basic concepts related to development of a regional
historiography. The free and undifferentiated application of such defi nitions as a regional historiography, the historical
study of local lore, local history and microhistory shows that it is necessary to overcome sharp polarization of existing
conceptual approaches. Considering the acuteness and in many respects debatability of problems of a North Caucasian
historiography, there is a necessity to know what place it takes in development of historical science and how the applied
concepts and terms are adequate to modern level of knowledge.
