Discourses of National and Civilizational Identities in Russia

The article analyzes the discourses of national and civilizational identities in Russia forming as a result of informational impact and cultural actualization and generating different identificational matrixes for individuals constituting such imagined communities as a nation and civilization. The conclusion is that there is a national and state identity that has formed in Russia which, however, proved its insufficiency in overcoming the ethnic conflicts in Russia and in consolidation of Russian society. Civilizational identity formed on the basis of the image of Russia as a state and civilization can become an integrated identity in Russia.
