The Historical and Political Retrospectivism in the North-Ossetian Fine Art, Second Half of 1960s – First Half of 1980s

The article is devoted to the analysis of the historical and political aspects of professional fine art in North Ossetia in the period of “razvitoi socialism”. The development of national fine art was realized in the context of soviet cultural policy. The art ought to carry out an important ideological function – to educate people in spirit of patriotism, internationalism, loyalty to socialist ideals. The artists of North Ossetia had to answer the social and political requirement. In the late 1960-s – 1980-s the painters and sculptors had created art works, which glorified the heroes of Revolution and Civil War in Terek Region and North Ossetia and the participants of Great Patriotic War. They propagandized friendship between Russians and Caucasians. They painted the portraits of contemporaries, industrial and farm workers. Their creative activity was stimulated with rewarding prizes, decorations and etc. Despite ideological and political pressure on creative process, the artistic proficiency was the guarantee for high quality of art works. As a result, the fine art of North Ossetia progressed in the official soviet artistic culture and was appreciated as one of the best one among the national artistic schools in Russia in the period of “razvitoi socialism”.
