The problems of ethnic nationalism and confl icts in the North Caucasus are analyzed. The institutional reasons and
the mechanisms promoting preservation in the region of ethnopolitical problems are considered. It is offered to consider a
phenomenon of ethnic nationalism as the counterstate project directed on its easing in the regions of the Russian Caucasus.
