(Rostov-on-Don)

(Novocherkassk)

Purpose: Analysing for temple architecture, monumental painting of Novocherkassk ancient and modern temples.
Conclusions: Eclecticism prevails over the style property of architectural aspect of existing Novocherkassk temples, with Byzantine traits dominating in buildings of the late XIX and the early XX century period while modern churches being based on well-established traditions of church architecture taking into account appearance of new building materials and technologies. Monumental temple painting is subjected to the same tendency as external appearance: abundance of wall paintings in the ancient temples and, as compared with them, rather modest wall painting or its complete lack in the modern churches. An attempt to combine an Orthodox canon and innovative trends are observed in the style plan of temple modern decoration.
