The Factor of Contingency and the Role of Personality in the Dissemination of Intellectual Tendencies in the Social Space (in the Conception of Richard Rorty)
The article is a result of work with the concept of contingency, that has a priority position in the contemporary socio-cultural space, as well as in postnonclassical scientifi c paradigm. Philosophical foundations of randomness considered
through the prism of historical determinism, of particular interest to human cognition. Therefore, this article analyzes the random factor in the emergence and consolidation in the social space of various philosophical and cultural innovation
as well as a role of personality, who provides this transformations.
As a basic of this conception – the ideas that considered the American philosopher Richard Rorty, representing an alternative version of the genesis of intellectual trends due to the spontaneous confl uence of personal and collective intentions. In particular, R. Rorty argues that the fi rst randomness declared itself more than two centuries ago, when came the fi rst thesis that truth does not open, and the world is absolutely neutral, rather than trying to uncover the human mind its objective laws. The truth probably is created by individuals, and distributed on the basis of random coincidence of individual attitudes general social trends. Over time, individual mentality go to the rank of commonly used in order to symbolize the transformation of language, culture, and science.
Rorty’s position is often characterized by Western scholars as a total “anti-ontologism” against academic philosophy, as well as metaphysics, religion, any form of fundamentalism. However, more ideas Rorty focus not so much on the negative, but on the reformation of intellectual activity, the desire to get away from excessive pragmatism knowledge, the recognition of new factors of social development. This view helps to rethink the process of changing scientifi c and philosophical paradigms, changing cultural and social guidelines in history to systematic assessment of reality, the vector of the further development of social processes. The factor of contingency in modern society is greater than ever that allows to fi nally understand not only the objective course of social history, free from any kind of determinism, but also the role of personality in creativity creating the truth, which gives sense of social life.
