Types of Private Landownership in Dagestan (18th – fi rst Half of the 19th Century)

(Makhachkala)

The thesis is devoted to the identifi cation of particular forms of landownership in the historical and legal point of view in the most developed region of Dagestan.
Among the numerous aspects of the problem of land relations the matter of private (myulk) property as a basis for defi ning the relationship between the diff erent classes of society represents a particular interest. It’s impossible to show the whole socio-economic structure of Dagestan society without showing who owned the land, who had the actual right of ownership, who was its real owner.
The relevance of the problem being studied is determined not only by the absence of a special monographic study in the Russian and Dagestan historiography, but also by the fact that in the present time the problem of land, land relations as well as many other problems of the past history of Dagestan is of great interest to the population.
The consideration of the experience always gives not only positive results, but also the ability to avoid mistakes in the future, taking into consideration the fl aws and shortcomings, with the help of which a relationship of mutual understanding preventing the emergence of confl icts is established.
The chronological scope of the study (18th and the fi rst half of the 19th century) is conditioned by the fact that this is an entire period in the history of Dagestan, when its people, diff erent regions and political structures had not been joined the Russian Empire yet. The overall characteristics of the socio-economic development that took place in the past dominated that period and continued to exist until the mid of the 19th century before the end of the Caucasian War and the fi nal incorporation of Dagestan to Russia.
The specifi c objective of the study is to identify the presence of private (myulk) tenure in Dagestan as the main form of landownership of the peoples of Dagestan, to determine its place in the system of landownership in Dagestan as a whole.
While studying this problem it can be clearly seen that in the studied time in Dagestan, private (myulk) tenure was determined to be the main form of landownership that was hereafter expanded and strengthened.
