(Rostov-on-Don)

Despite the established in the cultural, philosophical and scientific literature point of view at the historical typology of culture, coming from the “trinomial formula”, representing two “normal”, traditional historical type of culture – “personal – name” (primitive state) and “professional-name” (agricultural civilization) and on the other hand, deviating from the “norm (standard)” unique,
innovative one – “universal-conceptual” (European) type, to prove that this view is not straightforward and requires serious analytical checks in the context of identifying specific content and features of the formation of Peter’s typology.
Methods: In accordance with the task, the author considers the main starting positions of M.K. Petrov, on the basis of which he researches Culture and Cultures, and in the course of a detailed study of the dynamics of the terms used, the methodological approaches of content, two new typology levels of cultural formation in the philosophy of M.K. Petrov are fi xed, which are different from the established tripartite schema. The first level of representation of the culture
typology is associated with the use by M.K. Petrov not only one but few actually signifi cantly different typologies. The second level, on the other hand, is associated with stereotyped scheme, but allows using not only the “typological” terminology, but some (“ritual”, “key”, “formation”, “pool”, “region” – instead of “type”). In this context, it becomes possible to see formation of the idea of referring to “type” as the way of expressing sustainable and happening in space and time of social and personal life.
Results: It makes possible, “penetrating” into the creative laboratory of M.K. Petrov, show a unique process of scientifi c research, passing through the stages of collection, selection and conceptual treatment of the material. Thus, M.K.
Petrov appears as the unique scientist, combining the advantages of cultural studies researcher, philosopher, scientific worker and historian.
