From the Experience of Archeographical Work, H.M. Dumanova in the Light of Modern Scientific Approaches
Publication of documentary material plays a fundamental role in the expansion of the source base of modern research. Compilers of collections of documents introduce into scientific circulation thousands of archival documents that reveal new facets of the historical past. At the same time, the authors do not always have scientific and methodical methods for publishing documents, which reduces the scientific value of these publications.
In the creative biography of Professor H.M. Dumanov significant place is the publication of archival documents that help to reconstruct the complex events of the 19th century. A typical work of this group is the collection “Materials of
Ya.Sh. Shardanov “Materials of J.Sh. Shardanov by the customary law of the Kabardins of the first half of the nineteenth century” / Compiled by H.M. Dumanov. Nalchik, 1986. The archaeographic analysis of this work reveals the positive
aspects and some shortcomings of this collection of documents. The novel nature of the publication is grounded in the introduction into the scientific circulation of an almost complete list of family lists of nobles and princes of Bolshaya and Malaya Kabarda according to the census of 1825 in 1986, when there was an unspoken taboo on research on the history of the noble elite of the society. Archeographic shortcomings of the collection are proved.
