The article is devoted to the study of the joint monograph by A.A. Zhurtova and A.N. Maksimchik «Historiography of Russian-Caucasian Relations in the 16th–19th Centuries: Two Approaches to Understanding the Problem», published in 2017 at
the North Ossetian Institute of Humanitarian and Social Research. It analyzes the theoretical and methodological foundations of the study of the historiography of Russian-Caucasian relations in the past, the monographs substantiated by the authors, examines the dynamics of the development of Russian science on this issue, and outlines the possible prospects for its exploration. The authors
of the article come to the conclusion that different research approaches to the historiographical interpretation of Russian-Caucasian relations in the 16th–19th centuries, used by the authors of the monograph, enabled them to carry out a comprehensive analysis of ideas and concepts in the context of the dynamics of social, political and ideological conditions that determined the development
of the historical science. The methodological tools outlined in the monograph allowed to create a holistic view of the subject, taking into account the multifaceted and multifactorial development of the historiography of Russian-Caucasian historical interaction.
