The Peculiar Properties of the Relationship between Church and Cossack Authorities in the Don Region (the 18th Century – the 1860s and 1870s)
The article deals with the evolution of relations between the Church and the Don Cossack authorities in the context of administrative-territorial changes in the 18th and 19th centuries. The author analyzes differences between the power of Bishops
and Cossack authorities over the Don parishes at different stages of the Don’s development as a Church administrative unit. The study examines some areas of Church reforms of the era of Alexander II. It indicates that the Orthodox Church failed to achieve the elimination of legal inequality of the Cossack and non-Cossack clergy in the 1860s and 1870s. The main reason is opposition of the
