Some Aspects of Metaphorization in Modern English Economic Mediadiscourse

Purpose: The aim of the study is to investigate distinctive properties of metaphorical nomination in the English economic mediadiscourse which is of particular importance in the modern mass media due to a range of political, economic and socio-cultural issues. The object of the research is a selection of metaphorical nominations in the English economic mediadiscourse.
Methods: The metaphorical nominations under investigation were selected from a number of quality business English magazines by means of selective sampling.
Results: The article reveals distinctive semantic-nominative features of metaphoric derivatives as well as the peculiar combination of standard and expressive strategies which build informative and emotional cohesion of the economic mediatext.
Discussion: The article highlights some specific features of metaphorical nomination in English economic mediadiscourse. The study supports conclusions made by linguists about the special roles of mass media to inform and simultaneously affect the target audience.
