The shift of the researcher's interest towards the methodological foundations of geopolitical analysis based on conceptual models is noted. In the context of the structural approach to the analysis of geopolitical problems, the formation of applied cognitive modeling is observed. It supports the cognitive model conceptual pre-emptive model of search, obtaining, processing and consolidating
information. It is assumed that each analyst has a basic repertoire of conceptual models for research. A specific conceptual cognitive model serves as a means to form a unified and holistic view of the problem under study and provides a directed allocation of essential knowledge about the situation. It is shown that the most common conceptual image used by the analyst as a generalized prototype of geopolitical conflicts is a simple contour with positive feedback. The conceptual cognitive model describes and explains how to initiate a conflict and trigger a positive feedback mechanism. The conceptual cognitive model of counteraction
to geopolitical conflicts is presented. In it, the studied situation is described at the initial stage in the form of a more complex image based on a composite two-circuit model. The model includes a simple positive feedback loop and a negative feedback loop.
The point of intersection of contours is a problem node of cause-and-effect relations.
