Language and Ethnical Identity in Armenian Community of Don

The article examines the role of national language in formation of etnnical identity within the confines of language policy in Russia. Language policy in the Russian Federation plays an essential role in supporting language and ethnical interests of the nations in multi-ethnic Russian society.
The article analyzes as well the role of the main language channels in formation and preservation of ethnical identity. By preserving the Armenian language, the Don Armenians could preserve their ethnical identity and not be assimilated, despite the long-term living and intensive contacts with the local inhabitants. Consequently, the study concludes that national language is considered to be a significant factor in formation of ethnical identity.
