Stereotypical Representations of Russian Speakers about the Error through the Prism of Verb Valency
Stereotype representations reflecting the linguistic picture of the world become apparent from various linguistic manifestations, including the syntagmatic connections of the word. The semantics of inaccuracy related to the qualification of the subject’s activities and its estimation is considered in this article on the example of contexts from the Russian National Corpus. They demonstrate
a wide spectrum of the verbal valency of the word error and various vectors of interpretation of the “error” realized in phrases, based on its perception by the causer, as well as from other persons. The most frequent are the selected groups of verbs that have the meaning of “making mistake”, “to guarantee from mistakes”, “to hide, hush up mistakes”, “to answer for mistakes”, “to correct,
eliminate”, etc. The semantics of the ridicule of mistakes, an indication of the state of embarrassment (shame) for mistakes and punishments, are less regularly implemented by speakers. Separate phrases (work on mistakes) acquire the status of a phraseological unit. The frequency and composition of individual groups of verbs serve as an indicator of the importance for native speakers of some vectors of understanding the concept of “error”.
