Existential Problems in the Works of J.-P. Sartre and E. Fromm: Non-Religious Reading
The article discusses how the outstanding secular thinkers of the 20th century J.-P. Sartre and E. Fromm interpret existential problems. The author emphasizes that the dynamics of the culture of the 20th century, economic, scientific and technical changes have led to the abandonment of the traditional and centuries-old European Christian worldview. The leaders of this process were non-religious Western philosophers, who, nevertheless, paid much attention to existential problems, based on the idea of the absence of the Supreme original. The article deals with the themes of death, freedom and communication as the key subjects of atheistic philosophizing, compares the positions of J.-P. Sartre and E. Fromm. The article shows that atheistic existential philosophizing is characterized by ignoring the theme of death and accentuating, on the one hand, the deep baselessness and inconsistency of man, and on the other – his constant activism.
