Religion in Education: Unity and the Differences of Purpose

(Department «Rostov State Economic University» branch in Makhachkala)

The influence of religion on education occurs not only in the sphere of the moral value-world core, but also in the broader aspect of spiritual formation of man. The article identifies common and different tasks and goals of Islam and education on the example of development of culture of Dagestan peoples. The relationship between Islam and education before and after the emergence of secular education is considered. Examples from cultural and educational practice show the influence of Sufi Islam on reinterpretation of historical and ethnic meanings of a number of human virtues, as well as the merits of Sufi learning in the form of murid and murshid dialogue, which widely uses mediative practices, non-verbal types of communication, polysemantics of the text, etc.
All this is significant for modern Russian education, which has essentially lost trusting and respectful relations between teacher and
student.
The emergence of secular education has complicated the relationship between the goals and objectives of Islam and education.
What has always been noted is the contradiction of religion, that along with a rich spiritual potential that affirms the values of unity, mercy, compassion, love, etc., there are many values that are incompatible with the humanistic norms of modern society.
The author establishes discrepancies in certain purposes and objectives of religion and education and insists on a well-thought-out and balanced attitude of society towards religion.
The findings can be useful in the modern educational policies of the country and the region.
