A Case for the Investigation Practice and Legacy of the Military Historians Brothers Esadzes


The article refers to the main steps in the career and investigation activity of the Military Historians in the sphere of the Caucasus studies – brothers Esadzes. The study is based on the archive Imperial offices documents, original periodical publications and published papers. With the background of their career evaluation we focused on the research preoccupation of the Esadzes, the branches of their investigation activity and its results. The paper has the scrutinised study of the published materials of the Historians together with the analysis of the reasons for their creation.
The author comes to the conclusion that the brothers Esadzes belonged to the specifi c circle of the Military specialists that correlate their military service with historical research. The results of their activity had the straightforward social context being focused on the propagation of the official ideology via the influence on the contemporaries’ minds. Anyway, taken off the political context the vague Caucasus materials and historic facts collected by the Esadzes encouraged the further development of Historical knowledge and preserving the documents on the Caucasus studies.
