The Calculation of Material Damage to the Rostov Region from the Nazi Occupation in 1941–1942

Rostov-on-Don was the strategic goal of Nazi Germany as the "Gateway to the Caucasus". The enemy strike force on the southern wing of the Soviet-German front – the 1st Panzer Army was aimed right here. During fi erce battles, the enemy managed to capture the Rostov-on-Don on November 21, 1941, but already on November 29, Soviet troops liberated city. The fighting and occupation caused considerable destruction to Rostov-on-Don and rural areas of the Rostov Oblast. The purpose of the article is to analyze the count of material damage to the Rostov Oblast in 1942. The study is based on documents from the Center for Documentation of Contemporary History of Rostov Oblast and published historical and historiographic sources. The results of the study are important for the analysis of the general consequences of the Nazi occupation of the Rostov region and the mechanism for their determination.
