Basic Functions of the Postposition bla in the Karachay-Balkar Language
The article considers the main functions of the postposition bla in the Karachay-Balkar language.
Postpositions and postpositional-nominal words that perform auxiliary functions that cannot be transferred by case forms in the Karachay-Balkar language became the object of scientific research only in the middle of the twentieth century. However, the postposition bla did not become an object of independent study, the whole set of its meanings was not considered. Meanwhile, the study of specific, narrowly focused problems of morphology is of considerable interest for determining syntactic and semantic relations. In this regard the relevance of the study is obvious.
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the entire set of meanings of the postposition bla, as well as to identify patterns and semantic backgrounds of the use of this postposition. The scientifi c novelty of the work lies in the fact that it identifi es and clarifi es new meanings of the postposition bla, which were not described earlier in studies devoted to this auxiliary part of speech. The
main meaning in the semantics of the postposition bla is that of comitativeness. The postposition bla is also used in the temporal meaning, in the meaning of spatiality, toolness, etc.
In addition to the above meanings, the postposition bla has got new nuances not previously described in scientific research:
in our opinion, the postposition bla in the Karachay-Balkar language also expresses the meanings of cause, motive; correspondence with something; measure, volume, quantity; goal, intention, and aspiration.
