Is Modern Philosophy Contemporary? (We Continue the Controversy)
The article was prepared in support of the publication by V.D. Bakulov and A.F. Polomoshnov "Apology of Modern Philosophy" (Scientific Thought of the Caucasus. 2021. No. 2. P. 46–52). The crisis of modern Russian education awakens the perennial
question of the status of philosophy in society. The scientific community is interestedly discussing: what is philosophy as the quintessence of culture, how is its propaedeutic role now manifested? The pivotal question: the status of the discipline "Philosophy" in
the educational process, what kind of "Philosophy" is needed for higher education in Russia? The place and functions of philosophy in a modern technical university, the features of its teaching in the context of digitalization of education are comprehended.
In this publication, the fragmentation and defundamentalization of philosophical problems, the substitution of true values with simulacra, the transformation of philosophy into an arbitrary mind game to create intellectual constructions, the devaluation of all and all values are listed as negative trends in philosophy. However, the authors forget that the so-called "destructive postmodernist
tendencies" have deep roots – the result of the destructive forces of reason for humanism, therefore philosophy needs to enrich its methodology by increasing the irrational and the modernity of philosophy gives these essential tendencies of postmodern culture, and in particular, lost, seemingly in time relationship with religion. Giving preference to philosophy as reason, all the classics of
Muslim philosophy insisted on its inseparability from religion; the article contains typical reflections of al-Farabi in this regard.
"Philosophy in oneself and for oneself" is a complex social adaptive system that is in constant self-realization. That is why she needs constant self-assessment, verification of status with historical time. Despite its greatness in the human spirit, philosophy
is not only self-critical, but must regularly ask skeptically the question: is modern philosophy contemporary?
