Military-Political Cooperation between Russia and the Peoples of the Caucasus in the XVI–XVIII centuries in the Modern Historiography

The article is devoted to the study of Soviet and modern studies, which analyzed the process of Russian-Caucasian militarypolitical interaction in the 16th–18th centuries. In particular, the works of G.A. Kokiev, N.A. Smirnov, T.Kh. Kumykov, M.M. Bliev,
V.B. Vilinbakhov, A.V. Fadeev, E.D. Naloevа, V.V. Lapin, K.F. Dzamikhov, V.V. Degoev, Sh.A. Gapurov and other scientists, which describe the joint military actions of Russia and the peoples of the Caucasus, the nature and foundations of their allied relations in
the specified period.
The author comes to the conclusion that the main plot that Soviet and modern researchers pay attention to is the joint Russian-Caucasian struggle against the Ottoman Empire, its vassal of the Crimean Khanate, Iran and Dagestan feudal rulers in
the 16th–18th centuries. The works describe the Russian-Kabardian struggle against the Crimean-Turkish and Shamkhal raids, the Russian-Chechen actions against the Iranian Shah, the construction of fortresses in the Caucasus to implement the most important foreign policy tasks of Russia, the participation of Georgians and Armenians in the Russian-Turkish and Russian-Iranian wars, the process of replenishment of the Russian military elite by representatives of the local princely and noble classes, etc.
