Purpose: analysis of the activities of the Kabardino-Balkarian regional branches of political parties in regional and municipal electoral processes in the context of institutional changes in the early 2000s. based on the material of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. It is shown that the basic trend of election campaigns was the formal nature of party competition and alternative electoral practices, manifested in one of the highest indicators of electoral activity of the population of the CBD, abnormally high figures of support for the "party of power" and the Head of the republic.
Methods: the main research methods used in the work are: comparative-historical, institutional, systemic. An important role was played by the principle of historicism, which allowed us to analyze the activities of regional branches of Russian political
parties in the context of the transformation of the political and managerial segment of the socio-political space of Russia.
Results: the created instrumental mechanisms regulating regional elections have made them manageable. Under these conditions, the discrediting of political parties in the eyes of society, the imitation of electoral and party tools, ultimately created a threat to the legitimacy of the regional government itself.
Discussion: since electoral processes at the present stage have become one of the central political institutions of modern Russia, and political parties are actively involved in electoral politics, they will largely determine the main trends of political life both at the federal, regional and municipal levels.
