To the Question of the Participation of the 790th Fighter Aviation Regiment in the Battle for the Caucasus

The article is devoted to the little-known facts of participation of the 790th Fighter Aviation Regiment in the battle for the Caucasus in 1942–1943. It is indicated that after the formation of the regiment, it performed the tasks of air defense of the Black
Sea coast of Georgia, stormed enemy troops and facilities in the passes of the Caucasus, then was on the defense of the Kizlyar – Astrakhan railway. In early September 1942, he joined the 219th bomber aviation division and accompanied bombers and attack aircraft to strike targets located in the occupied territory of the North Caucasus. During the offensive, he participated in the liberation of the cities of Mineralnye Vody, Armavir, Kropotkin, Krasnodar. The personal participation of the pilots of the regiment in the hostilities is noted, their military awards are indicated, the names of the dead are called. Combat losses were the reason that during
the air battles in the Kuban the regiment did not take part, from April 1943 until the end of the battle for the Caucasus was in reserve.
