The Syntactic and Semantic Syncretism of the Genitive Non-Prepositional Forms with an Ablative Meaning in the History of Russian Language

(Southern Federal University)

Purpose: in order to explore the reason of the displacement of the genitive non-prepositional forms with an ablative meaning that used with motion verbs and to determine the development trends of the Russian syntax, we’ve carried out a contextual analysis.
We determined a semantic and syntactic function of the genitive non-prepositional forms, identified their connection with the verbs’ meaning, and established the chronology of the displacement of these forms.
Methods: historical and descriptive methods, component and contextual analyses.
Results: the research of the evolution of the genitive non-prepositional forms with an ablative meaning that used with motion verbs with a prefix ‘от-’ revealed the differentiation between adverbial and objective forms: the objectives continued to be
expressed using the genitive non-prepositional bound forms, and the adverbial modifiers were expressed by case forms with prepositions only. The objective form of the genitive non-prepositional bound form was preserved thanks to the usage of the verb in the transferred non-spatial meaning.
