Land Management and land Surveying in Trans-Cuban Stanitsas (in 1860s)
The article examines the land management and surveying in the Kuban Region in the 1860s during the period of territorial development. Based on regulatory documents and previously unpublished archival materials, the local-historical theory of historical
settlements is analysed within the framework of the broad socio-humanitarian civilizational approach, explaining the settlement algorithm for the Cossacks’ consolidation in the new Russian territories, defined as a historical of Kuban Region.
The author made use of materials from the federal archives as well as the State Archive of Krasnodar Region, containing the documents on problem issues of land management and surveying in the Cossack stanitsas.
The author comes to the conclusion that the system of Cossack land ownership and land use in the Kuban Cossack Army despite all existing social and economic contradictions was shaped in the 1860s to act as a specifying component of the settlement modus vivendi in the Kuban Cossack population.
