Dialect Geographical Appellatives as the Basis of Regional Toponymy (Based on the Material of Don Toponyms)

The study of Don toponyms in different aspects with the need revealed the feasibility of determining their basis. The most important source of the formation of toponyms is dialect vocabulary and especially dialect geographical terms. The author explores
the composition and the etymology of dialect geographical terms, which served as the basis for forming of their own names, studies ways of forming toponyms. The dialect vocabulary determines the special flavor of the onomastic picture of the region, since dialect vocabulary reflects to a greater extent the national and regional system of values, the features of the worldview of one or another people.
