The Policy of Nazi Germany in the Scientific Sphere in the Occupied Territories of the Soviet Union

(Stavropol State Medical University)

The article is devoted to the policy of Nazi Germany regarding the functioning of the sphere of science in the occupied territories of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. In some cases, when it was advantageous for Germany from the military, economic or ideological side, the occupation authorities allowed the activities of scientific institutions in the territories they seized. The occupiers were most interested in scientific and applied developments in the field of mining and processing industry, agriculture, and individual developments in the field of medicine. But the invaders failed to achieve long-term and successful work of any branches of science or large scientific institutions. This was due to the unwillingness of the occupiers to develop science in the territories inhabited by second-class people, as well as failures at the front. The work of many scientific institutions was stopped, and they themselves were looted and destroyed. The Nazis destroyed many employees of Soviet scientific institutions.
