The Formation of journalism in Kabardino-Balkaria: the “Krasnaya Kabarda” newspaper

(Kabardino-Balkarian State University)

The history of the formation and development of journalism in Kabardino-Balkaria has its own characteristics. The soviet government, using the experience of pre-revolutionary enlightenment and publishing, contributed to the creation of the first printed publications – the wall newspaper “Kavkazskaya kommuna” and the newspaper “Krasnaya Kabarda”. They called upon the press to form a new political landscape by publishing relevant and necessary information among the mountain population. The absence of national journalistic personnel, the poor technical equipment of the printing house, and the low level of literacy of the population created huge obstacles to the activities of the first printed media. The capital provided great and timely assistance. The newspaper “Krasnaya Kabarda” helped to substantiate the issues of acquiring national-state autonomy, accelerated socio-economic recovery,
development of science, culture and education. The staff of the newspaper took an active part in the issue of the Kabardian alphabet in the Kabardian script. The newspaper “Karakhalk” continued the activities of the newspaper “Krasnaya Kabarda” to expand ties between peoples disseminate knowledge and raise the cultural and political level of the population.
